Richard Jefferies Museum
Marlborough Road, Coate, Swindon SN3 6AA
Finding Us
The Museum is not always the easiest place to find, especially as the front is on a busy dual carriageway, and the post-code takes you a mile up the road! We are on the corner of Marlborough Road and Day House Lane, next door to the Sun Inn and opposite a Texaco garage.

Buses
There are plenty of buses (e.g. 1, 1A, 3, 12, 13A, 14A) from Fleming Way in the town centre, a few minutes walk from the railway station. Ask for the Sun Inn, Coate, and you’ll be dropped at the Texaco garage right opposite us.

By Bike
Getting to us by bike is easy and we have cycle parking on site . We're located on the Swindon cycle network and there are plenty of traffic-free routes leading straight to our gates. Check out the latest Swindon cycle map to plan your route here:

Parking
Please note that we have very limited space for cars, usually reserved for volunteers, disabled visitors and deliveries. Otherwise, visitors should park at Coate Water (in summer, the overflow carpark). If you have a special reason to want to park on site, please do contact us.

Entrances
We have four entrances:
  1. Pedestrian gate accessed via the summer overflow carpark at Coate Water, which can also be reached via a path from Coate Water itself.
  2. Large gate on Day House Lane for cars which leads into our small carpark for volunteers, disabled visitors and deliveries.
  3. Gates for cars (volunteers, disabled visitors and deliveries) and pedestrians off the Marlborough Road dual carriageway.
  4. The arched Blue Gate, which is open occasionally but generally kept closed when there are lots of children in the Museum grounds.
